Area Schools


Lexington County School District One remains the largest school district in Lexington County-geographically and in student enrollment. This year (2009-2010) the district grew more than 500 students in Kindergarten through Grade 12. The district is also serving another 500 students in our 3- and 4- year-old programs. The district has 26 schools: 14 elementary schools, one intermediate school, six middle schools, four high schools and one technology center. The district also has an Alternative Learning Center. District One prides itself on leading the state academically. For the 18th consecutive year, our SAT scores exceeded both state and national SAT score averages. Our 2009 graduates earned more that $26 million dollars in scholarships based on their academic achievements. Lexington One eighth-graders continue to earn spots as South Carolina Junior Scholars. In 2008-2009, 200 students earned this distinction. The district's 2009-2010 operating budget totaled $168,750,236, 86.6 percent of which went toward salaries and related costs.

Midway Elementary (Kindergarten - 5th grade)

Recently named a Red Carpet school in 2008, Midway Elementary is a perfect choice for parents with young children in the Lexington area. Some of Midway's other accolades include consecutive Palmetto Gold and Silver Awards for the past 7 years, recognition as a national Blue Ribbon School and 13 National Board Certified Teachers.

We are committed to providing a positive, pleasant, and safe learning environment for every student. Our success is measured by the educational growth the students show and the smiles on their faces as they enter the building each morning

Lexington Middle School (6th - 8th grade)

"Lexington Middle. Where Learning Means Success." One of Lexington District 1's top middle schools, the namesake is not only a Palmetto Gold Award school winner, but is also home to a Milken Family Foundation National Educator Award recipient and is home to 122 of the 2009 Junior Scholar students the district produced for the 2007-2008 school year.

Mission: Lexington Middle School is a safe, caring environment dedicated to promoting the education of each student. The middle school experience prepares our students to demonstrate a high level of academic achievement and a successful transition to a rigorous high school curriculum.

Only one school can claim the inaugural Palmetto's Fines Award, given to Lexington High School in 1997. In 2004, Lexington High and Spring Valley High were crowned state co-champions in the AAAA SAT completion.
