Meg and Alex Huggins had no intention of leaving their Lexington home in 2009 when a friend urged them to take a drive to Saluda River Club. “We were amazed and came back the next week to check out the amenities. We decided on the spot that we had to move!”

The couple bought a beautiful townhouse, which they loved. But once son Finley was born in 2010 the Huggins knew they needed more space. Luckily they didn’t have to leave the community. Instead, Meg and Alex designed a beautiful two-story Charleston-style cottage in the Village District. They moved in last September.

They worked closely with Andrew White of Edge City Builders to achieve their dream home, which features an open floor plan and a large screened porch with a fireplace.

“We love the beach and wanted that coastal feel in our home,” says Meg. The Huggins also appreciate the easy access to outdoor recreation, running trails and the river.

One of the best surprises is the close friends they’ve made. Last fall they joined four other Saluda River Club families for the Kiawah Island Half Marathon. Seven adults ran the race while the others, including seven children, cheered them on. From card night to toddler time, there’s always something going on.

“Taking a walk to get the mail turns into a fun adventure because we always see people we know,” says Meg.

Beyond the fun, Saluda River Club has also added convenience to the Huggins’ busy lives. Alex has an easy, no-traffic commute to work. Meg, a teacher in the Lexington 1 school district, is excited about living in the district, which includes a new elementary school that’s literally steps from their Saluda River Club home.
