Old World European Styling Brings Elegance and Luxury to Briarwood Model
When interior designer Joan Goodwin first saw plans for The Briarwood, built by Baudo & Associates Home Builders Inc., two words popped into her mind - color and Europe.
"This home is so elegantly styled that I knew it needed to have an interior design that complimented the exterior," Goodwin said. "Bringing together European styling with an updated color palette makes perfect sense."
The 6,300-square-foot home is a new home in Lexington, SC that has five bedrooms and six-and-a-half baths, a large home theater with stadium seating, a game room with pool table, a wine cellar, a gourmet kitchen, a home spa and exercise room.
"The Briarwood has everything anyone could want in a luxury home in Columbia, SC," Goodwin said. "The decor reflects a lifestyle of a family that has traveled extensively, collecting fine art and European ornate furniture."
Pops of paprika and light turquoise against the background of rich neutrals make the floor plan flow, allowing the home to stand out among other luxury homes in Columbia, SC and nearby areas. The sitting room off the foyer is painted a soothing turquoise and features a chaise, plus formal drapery panels. It's furnished with a self-playing grand piano.
Across the foyer, the formal dining room is crowned with a crystal chandelier that hangs from a hand-painted medallion that pulls together all the colors in the home.
"To capture the luxury and elegance of this home, we've used lots of trim, fringe and other enhancements for the window treatments," she said. "There are two rooms with coffered ceilings; crystal chandeliers and sconces that offer additional detail to capture the essence of The Briarwood."
Walls in several rooms are finished in a Venetian plaster style, including the dining room, master bath and powder room. The large master suite has a built-in wet bar.
The terrace-level entertainment room has a masculine decor with wood paneling, hardwood floors and a coffered ceiling. It's adjacent to a large stone-veneered wine cellar. The main colors are chocolate, beige and paprika. Goodwin has chosen heavy leather nail-head accented chairs.
