Coach Ray Tanner Speaks at West Metro Chamber of Commerce

Saluda River Club’s Director of Business Development, Kara Powell, is an active member of the community and attends many business events in the area to keep updated. Kara attended the West Metro Chamber of Commerce breakfast meeting on Tuesday, January 24, 2012 where the focus was on coaching a winning team.

University of South Carolina baseball coach, Ray Tanner, was the featured guest speaker at the Chamber meeting. The monthly breakfast event was sponsored by and held at Lexington Medical Center, where coach Tanner spoke about the lessons learned from winning two back-to-back championships.

With the longest active streak in the Southeastern Conference, Coach Tanner’s teams have qualified for thirteen consecutive NCAA postseasons. Over the years, Coach Tanner has realized that by allowing his players to have ownership, it makes it their team and things go more smoothly.

The Coach also joked that the current fall GPA is 2.966, still waiting on a few grades. He does not want to see it come in above 3.0 because his records show championship years didn’t come with a 3.0 GPA! Saluda River Club wishes Coach Tanner and the USC team great success and a continued winning streak this season.

Andy White Wins Gordon A. Harrison Award

Andy White of Edge City Homes and partner in Lifestone Communities, developer of Saluda River Club, is this year’s recipient of the Gordon A. Harrison Award.

Presented by the Home Builders Association of Greater Columbia (HBA) and sponsored by Stock Building Supply, the award is given each year to an outstanding home builder in the spirit of the man it is named after. According to the HBA; “Harrison is remembered for his high personal character and integrity as well as his commitment to helping others.”

White has been a member of the HBA since 1997. He served as President of the Home Builders Association in 2003 and as Chairman of the HBA of South Carolina Legislative Committee in 2000, 2002 and from 2008 to present. The work of the Legislative Committee is vital to the association and all members throughout the state. Under White’s leadership the Association has gained many legislative victories on behalf of the industry including legislation to limit the abuse of impact fees on housing, property tax reform and a moratorium on a mandate for fire sprinklers in new homes.

White’s great commitment to his work has far exceeded expectations with Saluda River Club, a Gold Medal Winner for the nation’s Best Smart Growth Neighborhood and the site of the 2008 Parade of Homes.

According to White: Saluda River Club is our first project under the Lifestone Communities banner, and for us it’s just the beginning. The future holds exciting times for builder/developers who are willing to think outside the box, offer diverse products and respond quickly to consumers by creating quality communities. That’s what Lifestone Communities is all about – the commitment of the three of us to be forward-thinking, in tune with today’s and tomorrow’s consumers, and to deliver the very best each and every time.”

Saluda River Club Supports March of Dimes

Members of the Saluda River Club sales team attended the annual March of Dimes Fundraiser/Recognition event at the Marriott. Each year, they recognize someone in the real estate industry who has made a difference. This year, SC’s Secretary of commerce, Joe Taylor, was recognized.

Saluda River Club sponsored a table as did many other local businesses.  We are more aware of the importance that the March of Dimes organization plays in helping babies thrive.  We were also able to take part in a little bit of Jimmy Derrick’s auctioneering!  Each table participated in the fundraising cause. Instead of flowers as centerpieces, baseballs adorned the tables, autographed by Ray Tanner, head coach of USC’s baseball team. Bids began at $50 per table to take home a ball.  We’re proud to say that we are the owners of an autographed ball! All of this was for such a great cause.  We’ll definitely take part next year.

Every Brick Has A Story

Lexington’s, River Bluff High School, is scheduled to open Fall 2013.  The bricks being used for the school’s exterior were born from the clay found on site. According to an article in The State, shale from the 146-acre site on Corley Mill Road was used to create 600,000 bricks. Now known as “River Bluff Blend,” the deep red bricks bring a resource-conserving heritage to the school’s unique design.   Read more at TheState.com
