Kind Words from the Lexington County Council!
Visits to the Lexington County Council are usually pretty serious affairs, with lots of talk about zoning, property lines and that kind of thing. But there was definitely a lighter feeling in the air at a recent meeting when the Council honored Saluda River Club for winning the Best in American Living Award (BALA) for Community Design.
Bill Theus, Walter Taylor, Andy White and other members of our team were on hand when the Council issued a resolution congratulating us on the BALA award. The prestigious design competition is sponsored each year by Professional Builder magazine and by the National Association of Home Builders.
The BALA award was presented earlier this year in Las Vegas at the NAHB International Builders’ Show (yes, we certainly did attend and had a fabulous time!). Saluda River Club is only the second South Carolina community, and the first in Columbia, to receive it.
We’ve framed the resolution and hung it with pride in our conference room. Winning the award was so satisfying…and getting an official pat on the back from the Lexington County Council was pretty sweet, as well!

Thank You Members of the SC General Assembly!
Talk about a terrific honor! Saluda River Club principals Walter Taylor and Bill Theus led a delegation of staff and associates to the South Carolina State House recently.
They were presented with a Resolution commemorating the community on winning the Best in American Living Award (BALA) for Community Design.
“It’s one thing to be recognized by an industry group, but for members of the General Assembly to take the time to honor our efforts in this way really meant a lot,” said Walter.
The BALA award is sponsored by Professional Builder magazine and by the National Association of Home Builders. Saluda River Club is the second South Carolina community, and the first in Columbia, to receive it.
The Resolution had all of the “be it resolved” formality that’s typical of these proclamations. But the mood was as warm as you can imagine, with plenty of handshaking and friendly greetings from lawmakers from the Midlands and other regions of the state.
Thanks again to the General Assembly for honoring us in this way. We’ll remember this day for many years to come!

Saluda River Club Expands Team to Meet Demand
Riverfront Community Welcomes New Sales Professionals.
With record sales of over $17 million since the community opened in late fall of 2008, Saluda River Club is growing its team to ensure the very best in customer service.
The Lexington riverfront community welcomes residential home sales veterans:
Elizabeth Webber Akre and Catherine Wright.
Elizabeth Akre is an accomplished South Carolina real estate professional. She was named 2008 REALTOR® of the year by the Central Carolina Association of REALTORS®. Akre has served in a variety of leadership positions with the association, and in 2013 will assume the presidency. Most recently, Akre was part of an award-winning sales team with RE/MAX Real Estate Services in Columbia. At Saluda River Club, she will support the onsite sales organization.
Catherine Wright has enjoyed a successful real estate career. Her accomplishments include managing a branch office of a large Ohio real estate company and serving as sales and marketing manager for local and national real estate firms. Wright, licensed since 1970, is a lifetime member of the Regal Circle of the Sales and Marketing Council of the National Homebuilders Association.
“We are delighted to welcome Elizabeth and Catherine. Their skills and experience will be a tremendous asset as we respond to an increased demand for information about our community,” says Edmund Monteith, Jr., SRC Senior VP of Sales and Marketing. “Interest has been especially high since we were honored with the Best of American Living Award for Community Design in January.”
Saluda River Club, a Lifestone Communities development, occupies 235 pristine acres along a mile of the Saluda River. The River District features traditionally crafted large and estate homes on wooded lots. The Village District has townhomes, cottages and single-family residences.

Saluda River Club Achieves Record Sales
The lifestyle and recreational community along the Saluda River has emerged as one of the brightest spots in the South Carolina real estate market. Saluda River Club, a development of locally owned Lifestone Communities, achieved new home sales in excess of $15 million in 2009.
“Despite the recession, we’ve found that you just can’t keep people from their dreams,” said Lifestone/Saluda River Club principal Walter Taylor. Taylor, along with partners Andy White and Bill Theus, decided to stay the course in 2009 - never compromising on quality and continuing to emphasize extraordinary lifestyle and value. Their strategy paid off.
