Saluda River Club garden tour

On Thursday, May 14 and Saturday, May 16, the Lexington County Master Gardener Volunteers Association (LCMGV) will host its 14th Annual Garden Tour, encompassing three sites at Saluda River Club plus three other locations throughout Lexington County.

“At Saluda River Club, we will be able to showcase what great things can be done with smaller gardens. There will be three gardens open to the public during this year’s tour: two near the Cottages in the Village District, and one larger, more traditional garden,” says Gayle Gilson, a member of LCMGV and resident of Saluda River Club, who moved into her Cottage in 2011.

“We want to highlight that also when you downsize, you can have a beautiful and colorful garden – and since people don’t have to mow their own yard when they live in this award-winning master-planned community, they can spend some extra time and money on interesting plants, bulbs and perennials!”

SRC.LCMGV logoTickets to the LCMGV 14th Annual Garden Tour, named “A Celebration of the Senses,” are $25 per person (free for military personnel and veterans), and include admission on both days, May 14 and 16, from 9AM-5PM. Proceeds benefit the Sam Cheatham Scholarship at Clemson University for Lexington County horticulture students. Yearly, the tour draws hundreds of visitors from all over the region.

The association, which currently counts some 125 members, meets for monthly lectures, coordinates plant sales and creates informative displays about gardening and horticulture for the Lexington County libraries.

“Come and enjoy a two-day escape in six lush, private gardens located in Lexington County,” invites Mrs. Gilson. “Each garden is unique and exemplifies southern gardening pride and individuality. During the tour, there will be Master Gardeners present in each garden who can answer questions and make suggestions for your own beautiful green space.”
