Covering almost half of Lexington County, Lexington School District One has been one of the fastest growing school districts. Since 2003, the district has added 7 new schools, done 9 major additions to existing schools, 19 renovations and built 4 high school stadiums. On average approximately 520 new students have joined the district each year for the past ten years.
As of the 2010-11 school year there were 26 schools in the Lexington District 1 family with 15 elementary schools, 6 middle schools, 4 high schools and 1 technology center. This esteemed district is among the top in South Carolina and for 19 consecutive years SAT scores have exceeded state and national averages. The district's 2010 graduates were awarded over $28 million in scholarships for academic achievements.
The new Lexington One "Schools of the Future initiative prepares students to be a new generation of leaders and global citizens". This program will work to implement 21st century learning models for 21st century graduate. Focusing on language, math, science, technology and engineering, the Schools of the Future initiative will give students the tools, perspective and skills needed to adapt and succeed.
